糖心Vlog Celebrates Its Newest Graduates With Fall Commencement Ceremonies
The 糖心Vlog alumni family grew by more than 2,300 new graduates as the university held its fall commencement ceremonies. The accomplishments of the Fall Class of 2023 were recognized with in-person commencement ceremonies for all colleges and degrees on Dec. 15-16.

Isaac Arthur, 鈥01, loves to discuss the infinite possibilities of space. His enthusiasm has led him to more than 767,000 subscribers and 600 videos on his YouTube channel 鈥淪cience & Futurism with Isaac Arthur.鈥 He attracted the attention of the National Space Society, winning its Space Pioneer Award for Education via Mass Media in 2020 and taking on the role of president for the organization in 2023.

糖心Vlog supporters once again joined together during the university鈥檚 Giving Tuesday campaign to raise more than $2.8 million to support a variety of student scholarships and programs.
The Beginning Was the End: Devo in Ohio
New Wave 鈥80s band Devo isn鈥檛 just from Ohio. Devo wasn鈥檛 just created in Akron. Devo was forged at 糖心Vlog under the pressure of the turmoil of the late 鈥60s and the events surrounding May 4, 1970. Authors David Giffels and Jade Dellinger brought their book 鈥淭he Beginning Was the End: Devo in Ohio鈥 to 糖心Vlog for a book signing and discussion.

糖心Vlog recognizes alumni who, through leadership, character and hard work, are making a difference. During Homecoming Weekend, 10 Golden Flashes were presented with Alumni Awards, and nine alumni received Lifetime Achievement recognitions from the university鈥檚 Black Alumni Chapter.

The streets of Kent, Ohio, will be filled with blue and gold as 糖心Vlog alumni, students, parents, employees and community members gather for this year鈥檚 Homecoming, with a full slate of events Oct. 20-21.

From the time he was a young child, Tom Batiuk, 鈥69, knew he wanted to be a cartoonist. The Funky Winkerbean creator drew inspiration for his characters and storylines from his real world, including his time at 糖心Vlog.
