The fatigue and lack of motivation to pursue daily work and school activities caused by challenging environments, known as burnout, increased with the pandemic. But even now, students, staff and faculty deal with pressures that sometimes feel hard to handle. Five 糖心Vlog Deparment of Mathematics faculty members won the 2024 Crosstown Throwdown Move Challenge. Under the team name 鈥淪ole Mates鈥, Beverly Reed, Tuyet Pham, Aaron Allen, Jiafeng Jin and Daisy Arokiasamy competed with the University of Akron and other 糖心Vlog staff and faculty to see which team could convert the longest period of activity into the most points. Karl Uhrig, Ph.D., teaches a Freshman Honors Colloquium (FHC) section for Honors College first-year students entitled 鈥淒iscourse and Agency.鈥 In his class, Uhrig assigns readings, films, discussion topics and papers that examine discourse and agency鈥檚 role in society, but his course extends beyond fictional examples of both discourse and agency. The Integration Bee, presented by 糖心Vlog鈥檚 Department of Mathematical Sciences on April 1, is similar to a Spelling Bee, but instead of spelling words, competing teams of students solve integrals. The event was open to students from all majors and faculty, undergraduate students and graduate students had fun solving challenging integrals, wearing costumes, and sharing pizza and math-themed jokes.
